Compact spotting scope recommendation? Empty Compact spotting scope recommendation?

Post by javaduke July 30th 2017, 11:40 am

Now that NG scopes are unobtainable, I'm looking for a similar one, something that fits the gun box and can see .22 holes at 50 yards. Any recommendations?

I did get one from Champions Choice at Perry, their brand, that looks like a smaller version of the Celestron I have except about 1/2 the size. Same color and the method to attach the scope to the Gil Hebard mount and was able to close the box with out much effort and removing most of the items below the gun draw.. Though the .22 are not easy to see at 50 yards the scope is clear enough for me to see them in the black but I have to look good, in the white they are easy! Power is 30X, they did have another (their brand too I think) that had 50X looked good but If my memory is correct it didn't have angle eye piece. About the same price, little over $100. I'm not sure why I selected the one I have, probably the angle eye piece, it's mount was different too as I think it was fixed. Check their catalog.

Based on an earlier thread, I got this one. Easily see .22 holes in black @ 50 yrds, and it also will focus down to 10m, so I can use it when AP training.

I got an older used Bushnell Competitor for a friend and I've seen em on eBay for low cost. Good little scope. No bells or whistles. 10X and only a focus adjustment. Plenty for pistol out to 50 yards. Lightweight. Small. But no angled eye piece.

I use a fixed power 20x50mm Burris compact. It's small, and has plenty of power for 50 yards

CMP has the old Kowa 501  scopes.  They seem to have obtained all the old stock a few years ago.  https://estore.thecmp.org/Catalog/Item/832

The CMP Kowa scopes are fixed magnification, I wish they were variable.   Great scope!

I think that all of the old Kowa series 50mm were fixed 20x. I like the one that I have and might consider another.

Man that new Kowa looks sweet, not sure if its sweet enough to throw out my perfectly good Celestron and drop $350 though.

Most of my shots are in the white so they are not hard to see.  It is the ones that miss the backer that are hard to find.  Don

You can still get the NG 20x33 from Nikkonos, via ebay:

I have a Minox MD compact spotting scope, it has a variable mag range of 16-30 and really nice glass. I think I paid about 200 for it.

+1 well actually +3. I have 3 of the Burris compacts and think they are the best bang for the buck.
