Up and down, side to side.  For what we are trying to do how much is ideal, okay, too much, or does it matter at all?

Boils down to can you pull your trigger the same way every time repeatedly with the same results. Does the take up feel too long or are you ok with it? If it moves side to side (typically to left for right hand shooter) does it bother you or are you ok with it?
I would start here. Most triggers have around 0.030-0.040 take up. I reduce to 0.015 in most cases.
I like some felt over travel.

Take-up is fine, over travel could be more maybe?

But the pad itself rattles in the frame, side to side has .009 free space with a feeler gauge, up and down is comparable but worse (not really sure how to measure that).  Its been really hard to get a scatt trace that doesn't jump out of the hold in a random direction.

You can fit a new trigger to the frame, not too difficult.
