What would I need to do to upgrade my series 80 Colt Gold Cup to true bullseye standard? What's a ballpark estimate on the cost of such an upgrade? Is the Gold Cup frame strong enough or should I look for a different donor pistol for a wad gun?

Here is one current estimate.

I am sure there will be others added.

Most here consider the newer gold cups not that great of a platform to build off of given the base cost plus work required to rebuild. Not to say it can't be done. Most start with Springfield Armory Range Officers. I prefer to either build a custom pistol from Caspian frame & slide or go with a RRA wadcutter.

Unfortunately in California I can't legally buy a new Colt 1911 or a Springfield RO or a RRA pistol. They won't let me buy a Caspian frame either. In fact I haven't seen a new or.. used 1911 of any kind at any gun shop near me in over a year. That's why Iwas asking about rebuilding the one I have. The last 1911 I saw for sale was marked "Law Enforcement Only".

Where you located in Kommiefornia? Nothing wrong with a series 80, they just have to be approached differently when building into real BE pistol. I’ve shot 880’s with series 80.

Since you already have it, shoot your best sandbagged 50 yd target with 185 gr match grade ammo and let us take a look at it.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.. I have not seen a box of 185 gr match grade ammo since 2019. I have 1 box left of 230 gr hardball but this gun shoots much better with 4.0 grs of BE and a 200gr swc. If my favorite range reopens soon (it's closed for covid since 2020) I'll bench test it and report back. Any idea what it costs to put a Kart barrel and bushing in this gun?

Roddy made mine a tack driver again. Too many hardball rounds thru it over 30 plus years. After all those rounds the barrel was still good. What would it take to upgrade a Colt series 80 Gold Cup? Screen10

We are back to shooting bullseye at Sacramento the first Saturday of the month. Usually a 2700. Sometimes International. Covered firing line and a great group of folks. Richmond rod and gun club has ordered turning targets and will soon be shooting matches.

Dave Salyer charges $600 for barrel install and fitting to slide and bushing. This also includes a trigger tuneup if needed. Dave provides the barrel and bushing you just provide the pistol. Located on the east coast.
