Post by Skid Sat Mar 14, 2015 6:33 pm

First topic message reminder :

Ok I was weighing my hardball gun trigger and it won't lift the 4lb weight . My friend says all you have to do is bend one of your sear spring fingers and your good to go is this right ? and if so which sear spring finger do I bend. Now I don't know yet if I have a 3 finger spring or a 4 finger spring but in any case which one would I bend if this is the correct method to fix this or what is the correct method to fix this ?
Thanks in advance for all your guys help.

That is very cool Jerry, do you sell those, I would love to have that setup! Thanks KC look forward to the pics. Sorry to be so much trouble but I think many of the members here like knowing how the parts in our guns interact and things they can do safely and things that should be left to a qualified gunsmith.

back on topic, do any of the smiths feel that setting the center spring at the 50-60% of trigger weight  like several posted puts to much pressure on the disconnector  tip and the slide? I know I have felt a few that you can really feel the drag it puts on the slide when you cycle the gun.

It's limited to breaking thru into the spring bore. But you get enough room to make a difference.

The Marvel disconnector cut makes it a non issue..

To be specific, I still do a fair amount of machine work to the disconnector.
Part of it adjusts the travel, and contact area. If I feel the spring force is excessive, I adjust the angle of the contact between the two..I would like the spring to push straight up on the disconnector, rather than forward.

The more I read from knowledgeable smiths the more I realize  that even though a lot of 1911 parts are advertised and sold as drop in parts, very few really are or lets say should be.

Every single part has a specific function to perform.. That performance can always be enhanced.

Sorry this has taken a couple of days to get done.  Here are two sear springs from different wad guns with triggers set at 3.5 pounds.

thanks KC yes those show center spring to be above the sear spring as ive seen in other pics, mine for some reason to add 1.5lb pull to the center spring has it much lower than the sear side spring. Is there a preferred brand of spring to use, I may need to try a new one or recheck my measuring

Jack, I use Colt.  The ones in that link from C&S, Colt, Nowlin & Wilson all probably come from the same manufacturer.

The one thing you could do to a MSH is polish the bore where the spring rides, I doubt it would make much difference except for piece of mind - I have a hone for mine Smile.

Also if you put a little silver anti seize on the internals they will move like butter.

I know this is a old post but I got directed hear to find out how to bend my spring on my LB wadgun.  It is at 1lb 4oz tested with my new NRA weight set.  I need to increase 8oz to be comfortable.  I have read everything above and am more confused then before I started.  I have a KC trigger assy in the gun.  Do I bend the left or the center just a little?  We had a good BE 1911 gunsmith here but he retired but I guess if I mess up I can just buy a new spring.  Don
