Re: CMP Service revolver/ NRA revolver
Can a service revolver in .38 special be used in the the Presidents 100 and NTI? The rules do not seems clear to me.

No. It changed 1-2 years ago...
Rule 4.1.1 (a):
Pistol Design. The pistol must be a semi-automatic pistol. The pistol design should be of a type that is suitable for use in a general duty scenario (i.e., for military or law enforcement use).
Emphasis mine.

The National Trophy Individual Service Pistol Match is described by rule 7.4.2 with similar wording to arms allowed under section a.

I actually agree. I think you should be able to shoot service pistol with a model 10 or 15, like the old rules used to state.

Their was a sentiment by some when that was in the rules, that shooting a 10 or a 15 is not "fair" because the single action pull is less than 4lbs. I would assume that would was part of the consideration in the change.Dcforman wrote:I actually agree. Re: CMP Service revolver/ NRA revolver
There was also that the 38 cal revolvers were never considered “service pistols”. They were generally confined to aircrew and military police(women). And even back in the 1920-39 era only the 1911 was allowed as a “service pistol”.chiz1180 wrote:There was a sentiment by some when that was in the rules, that shooting a 10 or a 15 is not "fair" because the single action pull is less than 4lbs. Re: CMP Service revolver/ NRA revolver
You youngsters.
As the "K-38 Combat Masterpiece", this revolver was first purchased in 1956 for the Strategic Air Command Elite Guard of the United States Air Force. From 1960 to 1969 the Air Force bought large numbers of Model 15–1, 15–2, and 15-3 revolvers with a 4" barrel. The only distinctive markings are "U.S.A.F" on the left side of the frame. Originally all were blued, though some were reparkerized while in Air Force service.[2] The Model 15 was the standard issue sidearm of the United States Air Force Security Forces from 1962 to 1992. It was issued to security personnel in other branches of the U.S. armed forces, including the Naval Security Forces.[2]

Seeing as how I will probably have to shoot NRA matches next year, why is there such a specific ammo requirement for their revolver match? If the idea is to restrict it to "service loads" it's silly there isn't any affordance for the military 132 grain ball load

Re: CMP Service revolver/ NRA revolver
So, I actually coined the term "Service Revolver" before the CMP launched their program. It was less to emphasize the practicality for service use, more to emphasize the similarity to service pistol, but with a revolver (iron sights, factory-ish, multiple calibers allowed, etc). That's why there's no defined load requirements.
For NRA, I'm not totally sure, but I think it mostly had to do with creating as level a playing field as possible (one caliber, one bullet weight). If I remember correctly (and I may not be), you were only allowed to use jacketed ammo up until a few years ago? Can someone confirm?

Re: CMP Service revolver/ NRA revolver
From my understanding the NRA Distinguished Revolver Match was formatted specifically requiring a 158 Grain bullet more in tip of the hat to police heritage rather than a military one. For a long time the Distinguished Revolver rule required 158 grain lead projectiles only.jareds06 wrote:james r chapman wrote:Just want to confirm
