Gripping the 1911: thumb position
Where do you put your thumb when gripping a 1911? Right under the safety seems right, but there is a chance of pushing the safety up. Watching this video of Jon Shue it appears that his thumb is riding the safety:

I fit my thumb safeties so that it takes a really firm deliberate push to engage or disengage them. No way it is going to accidentally engage with just a flick of the thumb.

Try both methods and see which one is most comfortable and repeatable for you.

Proper, consistent grip is a challenge and overlooked in my opinion. Some say it doesn’t matter. Grip sets trigger finger location. Pressure sets natural wrist angle to which small adjustments are possible. Depending on your hand geometry and where the backstrap lands, thumb position if forced can expand the meat in your palm thereby affecting poa. Relaxed thumb and fuhgeddaboudit is a good place to start

All three of these videos were very helpful to both novice and experienced shooters. One training element they all shared was
DRY FIRiNG. The benefits of Dry Firing cannot be over-emphasized. Just DO IT!
Possible errors in one's grip, finger placement and follow through will become apparent through Dry Firing. At least this is true for me.
