So I learned a few things from my first attempt at a Bullseye 45.  I posted about a year ago "how not to make a Bullseye gun".  I knew I wanted a trigger job and a scope rail and that meant sending the gun to a custom shop after I bought it.  I did not want to pay an arm and a leg for postage.  I had saved up a bit over $1000 and decided to go for a 2 stage approach. Buy a good gun now and get it accurized later.

Last September I was checking out the web site at Clark Custom and they have a Kimber Custom II package for the 460 Rowland.  I decided to buy the Custom II from Clark and have them do a $95 trigger job and for $100 attach a Clark scope rail.  I got an idea from a dvd to have them put on a Bomar tuner for $45.  Total cost including ransom rest test, postage and FFL was $1200.

The initial accuracy results were a bit disappointing, the ransom rest was around 4 1/4".  If I had it to do over today I might have bought a Springfield range officer instead, I might skip the Bomar tuner as well.  I don't think they carried Springfield when I ordered the gun.  The gun shoots great and I love the trigger.

When I was done shooting at Camp Perry I dropped the gun off at the Clark Custom booth.  I paid them $435 for an accuracy job and postage.  They sent the gun back last week, it shot a 10 round group from a ransom rest at just under 2".  I could not be happier.  It's probably not quite as good as the $2095 .45 ACP Optical Heavy Slide that they sell, but it costs a lot less.

Nice folks to do business with

1635.00 not exactly low rent, but it sounds like you have a interesting center fire gun. Now get a range officer for the 45 match

Perhaps $1635 is not low rent, it is cheap compared to the Les Baer and other custom bullseye models.

If I was going to get a bullseye gun today I would follow your advice and buy a stock range officer and get a trigger job, scope rail and accuracy package.
Thanks
Mark

Since the .460 Rowland shoots the same bullets as .45ACP it should be legal for the .45 stage, shouldn't it?

Rule 3.4 says "Any .45 Caliber Semi-automatic Pistol or Revolver", and since .460 Rowland shoots a .45-caliber bullet - I'd say it's good-to-go.

Maybe it's a little silly to shoot high-powered cartridges (such as .454 Casull, .460 S&W Magnum, and .460 Rowland) in Bullseye, but it's technically within the rules.

Sorry for the confusion.  I bought a stock Kimber 45 from Clark.  They offer a Kimber package that includes the 460 conversion and several other things.  I bought a discounted trigger job as part of that package.  Never post before your 2nd cup of coffee!
