Wheel guns cost more to make than a lot of the Autos and the kids don't buy revolvers. We went though the same problem in the 80's.

It’s the PDs dropping revolvers… civilian market share is about as flat as you can get, but police departments haven’t used revolvers in decades.

I’m hunting for a S&W Model 18 but that’s a lot of money for a 22 revolver... that thing better shoot lights out.

Re: Costly Wheel Guns
I had to look long and hard to get a good deal on a S&W 14-5 full lug at the end of last year, $950 shipped but came with factory combat grips and target trigger & hammer. Saw similar ones on GB selling for close to $1500. Also GB charges tax so there's another 10%. Best bet is to find from a fellow shooter, better deals usually and no tax. Ended up finding mine on the WTB portion of the S&W forum but gotta be careful of scammers, even had one guy photoshop a piece of paper with the date on it into a web photo he found, I could tell it was shopped but was a good attempt.

Also my guess for the prices is people are realizing that newer S&W's aren't all that great and come with internal locks, lots of MIM parts and lawyered triggers. The old ones will only keep getting more valuable, especially ones in decent shape.

Model 18s are K frame .22LR, but not 6 or 8 3/8 " barrel. Basically, the .22 LR version of a Model 15. The 6" or 8 3/8" .38 were Model 14s, the 22s were the 17s. Most 18s were 4", I think a few were also 2". I think it was referred to as Combat Masterpiece as was the Model 15.chopper wrote:Jason, is that the combat version of the 17?Tim:H11 wrote:I’m hunting for a S&W Model 18 but that’s a lot of money for a 22 revolver... that thing better shoot lights out.

The market for the older ones bottomed out around 2010 when I bought my M19 which is my favorite gun.
