I've got an advantage arms target model, the single plastic mag that came with it works, two colt ace types (k-line?) jam about every other time.  What are my best options for reliable magazines?

Advantage arms should have magazines, they work pretty good.

If you don't need the slide to lock back GSG mags are fine. I have two that work 100% and one that does not lock back. removing the pin from under the follower helps  the slide lock back,

I can sell you two lightly used GSG mags (less than 500 rounds) for $50 including shipping which is about $25+/- cheaper than new.

I have a non lock back Marvel unit 1 that I have been using the two GSG's for a few years now.
Never a problem, just toothbrush the feed lips once in awhile to get the crud off and they also have some heft to them if you like some added weight.

Still have the third one new in the bag that I have yet to break out.

Do the Sig mags lock the slide?

I have 3 gsg & 3 sig (appear to be 90% the same) and they work just as well as the modified gsg mag that came with my unit.
As always...that's just me ymmv, the management is not responsible, & I didn't sleep in whatever motel.

I can't get Ace or GSG magazines to work well with my Advantage Arms conversions, but the Advantage Arms magazines work great.  Try from AA directly or from ebay.

I got a couple of the $13 Sig mags and they work perfectly in my Nelson

they do lock the slide back and are much heavier than the stock Nelson mags...

Where did you get them, or is there a link for the Sig mags?
